Cladding FAQs

What Varieties of External uPVC Cladding Exist?

Main uPVC cladding types encompass Shiplap, Open V Joint, and Featheredge. Each type offers protection against the elements and can rejuvenate your property's aesthetics or replace decaying timber boards. Shiplap cladding's profile aids water runoff, often preferred for large projects or due to its overlapping design. Open V joint cladding boasts a symmetrical V joint for a contemporary look, while featheredge mimics traditional timber cladding without maintenance.

What Styles of uPVC Cladding Are Available?

Numerous designs and an array of colours are available. Opt for plain cladding, often in white. For an authentic wood effect, choose woodgrain textured external cladding. This PVC alternative mirrors the appeal of wood but is simpler to maintain and longer lasting. Lastly, woodgrain external uPVC cladding offers wood-like emulation. From country cottages to modern mansions, uPVC is cladding to match any dwelling.

How to Install External uPVC Cladding?

External uPVC cladding not only enhances your home's appearance but also adds an extra layer of weather protection. It's a superb timber alternative - equally appealing but with low maintenance and durability. You can even install it yourself, saving time and money.

Preparation is essential - for any installation, preparation is key. You'll need a solid substrate, quality battens (treated timber), insulation if needed, and a vapour membrane. When replacing existing cladding, remove old materials before installing the new cladding. Differentiate between white and colour/foil cladding for a successful, safe installation.

How to Measure uPVC External Cladding?

Calculate basic square areas by measuring the height and width, then multiplying by specific factors for different profiles:

a. 100mm cladding; m² x 2 = number of lengths needed.
b. 125mm cladding; m² x 1.6 = number of lengths needed.
c. 150mm cladding; m² x 1.4 = number of lengths needed.
d. 300mm cladding; m² x 0.7 = number of lengths needed.
For instance, cladding a 6m wide x 3m high area in 150mm Shiplap: 18m² x 1.4 = 12.6 = 13 x 5m lengths. Account for windows, doors, and non-clad areas similarly, subtracting from the total lengths required. Note that wastage from on-site cutting and jointing may vary. A sketch of the area with lengths applied will help visualise offcut placement.

What Are the Advantages of uPVC Cladding?

uPVC external cladding acts as a protective 'skin' for your home, boosting insulation, minimizing air leakage, and enhancing energy efficiency. Available in various colours and designs, it revitalizes your home's appearance.
